As we approach the 35th annual National Volunteer Week, which began Sunday and ends Saturday, Caddo Council on Aging Inc., Foster Grandparent Volunteer Program, Shreveport-Bossier, is recognizing volunteers who tirelessly share their time and talents with those in need. National Volunteer Week is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek ways to engage in their community. It's about showing the nation that we meet our challenges not as isolated individuals but as members of a true community with all of us working together.

House Bill 734 of the current Louisiana Legislature contains a couple of common-sense points about the college tuition issue. For one, the bill ties public colleges' tuition to a Board of Regents formula that compares the institutions to their peers in the South, allowing for increases of 3 to 5 percent in each of the next four years at most campuses.
